This cute penguin can be attached to the fridge using the magnetic strip on the back, and is a great way to help young children learn to tell the time. It is clearly printed with the numbers 1 to 12 in red, and black dots are used to mark the minutes, with every five-minute increment marked as a numeral (5, 10, 15 etc.). The bright red clock hands can be moved to any position, and it also has 'quarter past', 'half past', quarter to' and 'o'clock' printed on the face. Children will learn to become accustomed to the numbers on the clock, but will also learn that the big hand pointing straight up means it is 'something o'clock', and that when it points straight down it is 'half past'. You can encourage the child to move the hands themselves, asking them to point the little hand to the '4', and the big hand to the '12' to make 4 o'clock. This will help their numeracy skills as well, as they learn to recognise the numbers on the clock. Once they have become familiar with the more straightforward times, they can progress to 'quarter to' and 'ten past'. You can also ask them to show you, using the clock, what time they go to school, or what time they go to bed. The clock is made with sturdy recycled board, with red plastic hands. The clock can be used in conjunction with the 'Tell the Time' lotto game for extra play value.
